The McClorys were heavily concentrated in Down, home to 80.8% of them (164 people). Next came Antrim (26), Armagh (10), Galway (2) and Kildare (1).

Women came out slightly ahead, 84.2% reading and writing against 80% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common entry on a McClory's census form was "Scholar"; 23.6% (48) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (15.8%), farm labourer (8.4%), textile worker (8.4%) and domestic servant (3.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 25.6% of all McClorys, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.
What religion is McClory?
McClorys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 97.5% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.5%).
