Women came out slightly ahead, 83.2% reading and writing against 75.3% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common entry on a McClung's census form was "Scholar"; 18.6% (39) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (11.4%), farm labourer (4.8%), general labourer (4.8%) and other maker / factory worker (4.3%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 12.9% of all McClungs, followed by agriculture, general labourers and manufacturing & trades.
What religion is McClung?
The largest religious group among McClungs was Presbyterian, at 43.3%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (42.4%), Protestant (3.8%), Roman Catholic (2.9%) and Methodist (1.4%).
