That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Of the McCords whose literacy was recorded, 82.6% could both read and write, 4.2% could read but not write, and 13.2% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (28), William, James, Thomas and Robert. For women it was Mary (23), followed by Margaret, Elizabeth, Sarah and Annie.

The most common entry on a McCord's census form was "Scholar"; 23.6% (128) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (8.3%), textile worker (7.9%), general labourer (2.8%) and metal worker / engineer (2.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 10.5% of all McCords, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.
What religion is McCord?
The largest religious group among McCords was Presbyterian, at 44.2%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (38.7%), Methodist (8.5%), Roman Catholic (7.2%) and Plymouth Brethren (0.9%).
