Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were general labourer (9.9%), farmer (8.9%), textile worker (5%) and farm labourer (4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 15.8% of all McGauleys, followed by general labourers, textiles & clothing and building & construction.
What religion is McGauley?
McGauleys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 98% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2%).
