Women came out slightly ahead, 77.8% reading and writing against 69.6% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (4), Thomas, Michael, Patrick and Francis Joseph. For women it was Mary (5), followed by Margaret, Bridget, Catherine and Delia.

The most common occupation among McHugos was farmer, 28.3% of them (15 people). Next came scholar / student (20.8%) and metal worker / engineer (1.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 28.3% of all McHugos, followed by metal & engineering.
