The McKendrys were heavily concentrated in Antrim, home to 84.2% of them (425 people). Next came Down (37), Derry (32), Armagh (8) and Monaghan (2).

The average McKendry in 1911 was 32.1 years old, 31.3 for men and 32.8 for women; slightly older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
McKendry literacy in 1911
Of the McKendrys whose literacy was recorded, 79.8% could both read and write, 4.3% could read but not write, and 15.9% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 82.6% reading and writing against 77.2% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (43), James, Daniel, Patrick and Thomas. For women it was Mary (28), followed by Annie, Margaret, Maggie and Agnes.

The most common entry on a McKendry's census form was "Scholar"; 16.4% (83) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.9%), farm labourer (7.3%), general labourer (6.5%) and textile worker (5.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19.6% of all McKendrys, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.

The largest religious group among McKendrys was Roman Catholic, at 39.2%. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (32.9%), Anglican (25.1%), Methodist (1%) and Moravian (0.6%).
