Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were carpenter / joiner (3.8%), blacksmith / smith (2.5%), dressmaker / milliner (2.5%) and farmer (2.5%). Grouped by sector, building & construction accounted for 8.9% of all McKintoshes, followed by professional, domestic service and textiles & clothing.
What religion is McKintosh?
The largest religious group among McKintoshes was Presbyterian, at 44.3%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (38%), Methodist (6.3%), Congregationalist (3.8%) and Roman Catholic (3.8%).
