Of the McMichaels whose literacy was recorded, 77.5% could both read and write, 5.8% could read but not write, and 16.7% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 18.9% of all McMichaels, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and building & construction.
What religion is McMichael?
The largest religious group among McMichaels was Presbyterian, at 40.2%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (32.2%), Roman Catholic (21.7%), Methodist (3.1%) and Baptist (2.8%).
