Tyrone had the largest share of McNamees, 18.9% (294 people). Next came Donegal (256), Derry (170), Antrim (125) and Dublin (123).

The most common male names were John (128), Patrick, James, Michael and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (101), followed by Bridget, Annie, Catherine and Margaret.

The most common occupation among McNamees was farmer, 18.7% of them (292 people). Next came scholar / student (18.3%), farm labourer (4.4%), general labourer (3.7%) and domestic servant (3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 23.5% of all McNamees, followed by domestic service, textiles & clothing and general labourers.

McNamees were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 96.3% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (1.9%), Presbyterian (1.2%) and Methodist (0.1%).
