Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (216), Patrick, James, Michael and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (242), followed by Bridget, Catherine, Ellen and Annie.

The most common occupation among McNultys was farmer, 23% of them (692 people). Next came scholar / student (21.5%), farm labourer (3.1%), general labourer (2.2%) and domestic servant (1.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 26.5% of all McNultys, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.

McNultys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 95.8% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.6%), Presbyterian (0.6%) and Methodist (0.1%).
