That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the McQs whose literacy was recorded, 69% could both read and write, 5.2% could read but not write, and 25.9% could do neither. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were J (10), P, M, E and R. For women it was M (7), followed by J, H, M J and B.
McQ occupations in 1911
The most common occupation among McQs was farmer, 16.9% of them (11 people). Next came general labourer (13.8%), scholar / student (12.3%), domestic servant (7.7%) and farm labourer (7.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 24.6% of all McQs, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.
What religion is McQ?
Most McQs, 66.2%, were Roman Catholic. The remainder were mostly Anglican (21.5%), Presbyterian (6.2%), Quaker (1.5%) and Salvation Army (1.5%).
