Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common occupation among McQuaids was farmer, 22.3% of them (198 people). Next came scholar / student (16.2%), farm labourer (3.5%), general labourer (3.4%) and domestic servant (2.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 26% of all McQuaids, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and general labourers.
What religion is McQuaid?
McQuaids were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 96.1% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.5%), Unitarian (0.9%), Methodist (0.3%) and Presbyterian (0.2%).
