The most common occupation among McQuaides was farmer, 22.4% of them (33 people). Next came scholar / student (17%), domestic servant (6.8%), farm labourer (4.1%) and general labourer (2.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 27.2% of all McQuaides, followed by domestic service, textiles & clothing and general labourers.

McQuaides were predominantly Roman Catholic (87.1%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (8.8%) and Presbyterian (4.1%).
