Women came out slightly ahead, 93.5% reading and writing against 83.9% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farm labourer (6.4%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (6.4%), clerk / office worker (5.1%) and farmer (3.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 10.3% of all Minchins, followed by retail & commerce, clerical & administration and general labourers.
What religion is Minchin?
Minchins were predominantly Anglican (71.8%). The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (28.2%).
