Women came out slightly ahead, 95% reading and writing against 88.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (15), Thomas, Patrick, James and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (21), followed by Ellen, Bridget, Margaret and Catherine.

The most common entry on a Mockler's census form was "Scholar"; 22% (48) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (19.3%), farm labourer (6.9%), no occupation / dependent (4.1%) and domestic servant (3.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 26.1% of all Mocklers, followed by domestic service, no occupation / dependent and retail & commerce.
What religion is Mockler?
Mocklers were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 95% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (5%).
