Of the Moffetts whose literacy was recorded, 79.2% could both read and write, 4.4% could read but not write, and 16.4% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 80.3% reading and writing against 78% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (12.6%), textile worker (3.8%), farm labourer (3.1%) and general labourer (2.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16% of all Moffetts, followed by textiles & clothing, metal & engineering and general labourers.
What religion is Moffett?
Most Moffetts, 54.2%, were Presbyterian. The remainder were mostly Anglican (25.4%), Roman Catholic (12.1%), Methodist (3.6%) and Unitarian (1.6%).
