That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the Morrins whose literacy was recorded, 73% could both read and write, 3.1% could read but not write, and 23.8% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 74.9% reading and writing against 71.1% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (38), Thomas, Patrick, James and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (52), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Catherine and Annie.

The most common occupation among Morrins was farmer, 21.5% of them (109 people). Next came scholar / student (18.1%), farm labourer (3.3%), general labourer (2.2%) and no occupation / dependent (1.6%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 25.2% of all Morrins, followed by building & construction, general labourers and domestic service.
What religion is Morrin?
Morrins were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 95.3% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2%).
