The Mulvaneys were heavily concentrated in Dublin, home to 50.7% of them (106 people). Next came Cavan (28), Sligo (28), Meath (13) and Down (12).

The average Mulvaney in 1911 was 26.7 years old, 26.8 for men and 26.6 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.

Of the Mulvaneys whose literacy was recorded, 73.6% could both read and write, 5.1% could read but not write, and 21.3% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (13), Patrick, John, Thomas and Michael; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (27), followed by Bridget, Catherine, Elizabeth and Annie.

The most common entry on a Mulvaney's census form was "Scholar"; 22.5% (47) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11%), general labourer (6.7%), farm labourer (2.4%) and other maker / factory worker (2.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 14.4% of all Mulvaneys, followed by general labourers, domestic service and manufacturing & trades.
What religion is Mulvaney?
Mulvaneys were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 93.8% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.9%).
