The 1911 Census recorded 209 people named Mulvaney in Ireland; roughly one in every 21,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 101 men and 107 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

The Mulvaneys were heavily concentrated in Dublin, home to 50.7% of them (106 people). Next came Cavan (28), Sligo (28), Meath (13) and Down (12).

Mulvaney average age in 1911
The average Mulvaney in 1911 was 26.7 years old, 26.8 for men and 26.6 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Mulvaney literacy in 1911
Of the Mulvaneys whose literacy was recorded, 73.6% could both read and write, 5.1% could read but not write, and 21.3% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 14.4% of all Mulvaneys, followed by general labourers, domestic service and manufacturing & trades.
