The Neesons were heavily concentrated in Antrim, home to 58.8% of them (248 people). Next came Tyrone (55), Fermanagh (30), Down (25) and Derry (20).

Of the Neesons whose literacy was recorded, 73.6% could both read and write, 4.2% could read but not write, and 22.2% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 75.8% reading and writing against 71.6% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (28), James, Patrick, Thomas and Edward. For women it was Mary (23), followed by Margaret, Sarah, Elizabeth and Rose.

The most common entry on a Neeson's census form was "Scholar"; 15.6% (66) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were textile worker (11.6%), farmer (10.2%), general labourer (6.6%) and farm labourer (4%). Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 15.4% of all Neesons, followed by agriculture, general labourers and domestic service.
What religion is Neeson?
Neesons were predominantly Roman Catholic (76.5%). The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (11.1%), Anglican (9.7%), Plymouth Brethren (2.1%) and Methodist (0.2%).
