The 1911 Census recorded 361 people named O'Hora in Ireland; roughly one in every 12,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 174 men and 187 women.

The O'Horas were heavily concentrated in Mayo, home to 83.4% of them (301 people). Next came Sligo (25), Longford (8), Wicklow (7) and Tyrone (6).

The average O'Hora in 1911 was 29.5 years old, 29.1 for men and 29.9 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
O'Hora literacy in 1911
Of the O'Horas whose literacy was recorded, 69.5% could both read and write, 5.1% could read but not write, and 25.4% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 72.4% reading and writing against 66.2% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
O'Hora common first names
The most common male names were John (30), Michael, Patrick, Thomas and James; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (41), followed by Bridget, Annie, Kate and Anne.
O'Hora occupations in 1911
The most common entry on an O'Hora's census form was "Scholar"; 23.5% (85) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (20.2%), general labourer (3%), domestic servant (1.7%) and farm labourer (1.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 22.2% of all O'Horas, followed by general labourers, retail & commerce and domestic service.
What religion is O'Hora?
O'Horas were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 94.5% of them. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (0.6%).
