The 1911 Census recorded 58 people named O'Lone in Ireland; roughly one in every 76,000 people carried the name. There were noticeably more women than men recorded: 35 women to 23 men.

The O'Lones were heavily concentrated in Tyrone, home to 79.3% of them (46 people). Next came Down (8), Antrim (3) and Galway (1).

The average O'Lone in 1911 was 26.2 years old, 23.1 for men and 28.3 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
O'Lone literacy in 1911
Of the O'Lones whose literacy was recorded, 83.9% could both read and write, 3.6% could read but not write, and 12.5% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 85.7% reading and writing against 82.9% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (3), Charles, Francis Joseph, John James and Owen. For women it was Bridget (3), followed by Catherine, Mary, Agnes Rose and Amelia.
O'Lone occupations in 1911
The most common entry on an O'Lone's census form was "Scholar"; 25.9% (15) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (17.2%), textile worker (5.2%), domestic servant (3.4%) and general labourer (3.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 19% of all O'Lones, followed by domestic service, textiles & clothing and general labourers.
What religion is O'Lone?
O'Lones were predominantly Roman Catholic (86.2%). The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (13.8%).
