The 1911 Census recorded 81 people named OLphert in Ireland; roughly one in every 54,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 43 men and 38 women.

Donegal had the largest share of OLpherts, 22.2% (18 people). Next came Tyrone (17), Antrim (16), Derry (16) and Dublin (10).

The average OLphert in 1911 was 27.1 years old, 28.5 for men and 25.4 for women; a touch younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
OLphert literacy in 1911
Of the OLpherts whose literacy was recorded, 67.5% could both read and write, 7.5% could read but not write, and 25% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 76.3% reading and writing against 59.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
OLphert common first names
The most common male names were Hugh (5), John, Henry, Michael and Alexander. For women it was Ellen (5), followed by Mary, Alice, Annie and Elizabeth.
OLphert occupations in 1911
The most common entry on an OLphert's census form was "Scholar"; 17.3% (14) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farm labourer (7.4%), general labourer (4.9%), farmer (3.7%) and housekeeper (3.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 11.1% of all OLpherts, followed by domestic service, general labourers and textiles & clothing.
What religion is OLphert?
Most OLpherts, 58%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (34.6%) and Methodist (6.2%).
