Of the Parnells whose literacy was recorded, 75.7% could both read and write, 0% could read but not write, and 24.3% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 78.4% reading and writing against 73% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Michael (6), James, Patrick, Thomas and Edward. For women it was Mary (5), followed by Annie, Elizabeth, Margaret and Bessy.

The most common entry on a Parnell's census form was "Scholar"; 23% (17) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (10.8%), general labourer (9.5%), domestic servant (4.1%) and agent / manager (2.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 14.9% of all Parnells, followed by general labourers, retail & commerce and domestic service.
What religion is Parnell?
Parnells were predominantly Roman Catholic (71.6%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (27%) and Salvation Army (1.4%).
