The 1911 Census recorded 93 people named Perrin in Ireland; roughly one in every 47,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 42 men and 51 women.

The Perrins were heavily concentrated in Dublin, home to 81.7% of them (76 people). Next came Antrim (5), Carlow (5), Wicklow (3) and Armagh (1).

The average Perrin in 1911 was 36.9 years old, 32.4 for men and 40.6 for women; noticeably older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Perrin literacy in 1911
Of the Perrins whose literacy was recorded, 91.3% could both read and write, 1.1% could read but not write, and 5.4% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 94.1% reading and writing against 87.8% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were William (6), Alfred, Francis, John and Afred Herbert. For women it was Elizabeth (3), followed by Anne, Kathleen, Agnes Ada and Annie Jane.
Perrin occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Perrin's census form was "Scholar"; 11.8% (11) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were clerk / office worker (7.5%), agent / manager (4.3%), farmer (4.3%) and clergy / religious (2.2%). Grouped by sector, clerical & administration accounted for 7.5% of all Perrins, followed by retail & commerce, agriculture and manufacturing & trades.
What religion is Perrin?
Perrins were predominantly Anglican (71%). The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (24.7%), Methodist (1.1%), Plymouth Brethren (1.1%) and Presbyterian (1.1%).
