Of the Pritchards whose literacy was recorded, 77.1% could both read and write, 4.3% could read but not write, and 18.6% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (6.2%), textile worker (4.5%), seamstress (3.9%) and general labourer (3.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 10.7% of all Pritchards, followed by textiles & clothing, general labourers and transport.

Most Pritchards, 51.8%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (24.5%), Roman Catholic (9.9%), Methodist (6.5%) and Non-Conformist (1.7%).
