Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Thomas (8), James, John, Michael and Patrick; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (9), followed by Bridget, Annie, Ellen and Johanna.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (18.1%), general labourer (2.4%), publican / hotel worker (2.4%) and clergy / religious (1.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20.5% of all Queallys, followed by retail & commerce, general labourers and professional.
