That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Of the Quilles whose literacy was recorded, 79.7% could both read and write, 6.2% could read but not write, and 14.1% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 82.9% reading and writing against 75.9% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Michael (5), John, Patrick, Thomas and Timothy. For women it was Mary (7), followed by Margaret, Annie, Ellen and Hanna.

The most common occupation among Quilles was farmer, 31.8% of them (21 people). Next came scholar / student (9.1%), builder / contractor (4.5%), clergy / religious (4.5%) and domestic servant (1.5%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 33.3% of all Quilles, followed by building & construction, professional and domestic service.
