Reddin in 1911 Ireland
The 1911 Census recorded 235 people named Reddin in Ireland; roughly one in every 19,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 115 men and 120 women.

Dublin was Reddin country: 31.9% of them (75 people) lived there in 1911. Next came Limerick (30), Offaly (25), Laois (24) and Cork (12).

The average Reddin in 1911 was 27.7 years old, 26.1 for men and 29.2 for women; a touch younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Reddin literacy in 1911
Of the Reddins whose literacy was recorded, 79.5% could both read and write, 2.7% could read but not write, and 17.9% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 81.4% reading and writing against 77.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Reddin common first names
The most common male names were John (20), Patrick, Michael, Daniel and Thomas. For women it was Mary (21), followed by Annie, Margaret, Ellen and Bridget; matching the national top five exactly.
Reddin occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Reddin's census form was "Scholar"; 26% (61) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (7.2%), general labourer (6.4%), domestic servant (4.3%) and farm labourer (3.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 11.5% of all Reddins, followed by general labourers, domestic service and retail & commerce.
What religion is Reddin?
Reddins were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 95.7% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (4.3%).
