That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. Of the Reddings whose literacy was recorded, 84.1% could both read and write, 3.7% could read but not write, and 12.2% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 85.7% reading and writing against 81.8% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Joseph (5), Richard, George, John and Thomas. For women it was Mary (7), followed by Elizabeth, Emily, Hannah and Margaret.

The most common entry on a Redding's census form was "Scholar"; 17.8% (16) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (6.7%), clerk / office worker (5.6%), domestic servant (4.4%) and maid (4.4%). Grouped by sector, domestic service accounted for 10% of all Reddings, followed by agriculture, clerical & administration and no occupation / dependent.

Most Reddings, 66.7%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (25.6%), Methodist (1.1%) and Non-Conformist (1.1%).
