The 1911 Census recorded 105 people named Redican in Ireland; roughly one in every 42,000 people carried the name. There were noticeably more men than women recorded: 63 men to 42 women.

The Redicans were heavily concentrated in Sligo, home to 59% of them (62 people). Next came Roscommon (20), Offaly (11), Dublin (7) and Antrim (4).

The average Redican in 1911 was 33.9 years old, 35.5 for men and 31.5 for women; noticeably older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Redican literacy in 1911
Of the Redicans whose literacy was recorded, 85% could both read and write, 5% could read but not write, and 10% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Thomas (13), Patrick, John, Michael and Peter. For women it was Bridget (8), followed by Ellen, Anne, Kate and Mary Kate.

The most common occupation among Redicans was farmer, 28.6% of them (30 people). Next came scholar / student (18.1%), blacksmith / smith (5.7%), farm labourer (2.9%) and general labourer (2.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 32.4% of all Redicans, followed by metal & engineering, general labourers and textiles & clothing.

Religion was only recorded for a minority of Redicans. Where it was, Roman Catholic was the most common (78 people), followed by Presbyterian (4).
