Reen literacy in 1911
Of the Reens whose literacy was recorded, 77.3% could both read and write, 3.8% could read but not write, and 19% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (22), Timothy, Jeremiah, Denis and Michael. For women it was Mary (23), followed by Ellen, Julia, Hannah and Kathleen.

The most common entry on a Reen's census form was "Scholar"; 27.8% (60) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (11.6%), general labourer (3.7%), farm labourer (3.2%) and herd / dairy worker (3.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 18.1% of all Reens, followed by general labourers, textiles & clothing and professional.
