Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were medical / nursing (6%), carter / driver / groom (4%), domestic servant (4%) and farm labourer (4%). Grouped by sector, domestic service accounted for 8% of all Roantrees, followed by agriculture, professional and general labourers.

Roantrees were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 98% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2%).
