The 1911 Census recorded 51 people named Shee in Ireland; roughly one in every 86,000 people carried the name. There were noticeably more women than men recorded: 31 women to 20 men.

The Shees were heavily concentrated in Tipperary, home to 51% of them (26 people). Next came Wexford (9), Kilkenny (7), Cork (3) and Dublin (2).

The average Shee in 1911 was 32.1 years old, 21.8 for men and 38.6 for women; slightly older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Shee literacy in 1911
Of the Shees whose literacy was recorded, 82% could both read and write, 2% could read but not write, and 16% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 90% reading and writing against 70% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (2), Cornelius James, Denis, Dermot Kickham and Desmond J A. For women it was Margaret (4), followed by ?ley, Agatha, Alice and Anne.
Shee occupations in 1911
The most common occupation among Shees was farmer, 13.7% of them (7 people). Next came medical / nursing (5.9%), clergy / religious (3.9%), domestic servant (3.9%) and farm labourer (3.9%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 17.6% of all Shees, followed by professional, domestic service and retail & commerce.
What religion is Shee?
Shees were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 92.2% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (7.8%).
