The Snees were heavily concentrated in Mayo, home to 61% of them (133 people). Next came Sligo (67), Roscommon (13), Wicklow (2) and Cork (1).

Of the Snees whose literacy was recorded, 65.2% could both read and write, 5.1% could read but not write, and 29.8% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 66.7% reading and writing against 63.7% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Michael (21), Patrick, John, James and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (20), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Kate and Anne.

The most common occupation among Snees was farmer, 23.9% of them (52 people). Next came scholar / student (20.2%), farm labourer (5.5%), domestic servant (1.8%) and general labourer (1.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 29.4% of all Snees, followed by domestic service, general labourers and professional.
