Of the Stedmonds whose literacy was recorded, 88.5% could both read and write, 5.8% could read but not write, and 5.8% could do neither. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Edward (2), John, Michael, William and Edward John. For women it was Mary (4), followed by Elizabeth, Catherine, Johanna and Anne.

Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (9.6%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (7.7%), carpenter / joiner (3.8%) and domestic servant (3.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 11.5% of all Stedmonds, followed by domestic service, retail & commerce and building & construction.
What religion is Stedmond?
Most Stedmonds, 57.7%, were Anglican. The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (30.8%) and Methodist (11.5%).
