Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 9.1% of all Strachans, followed by textiles & clothing, domestic service and retail & commerce.

The largest religious group among Strachans was Presbyterian, at 48.5%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (43.9%), Methodist (3%) and Roman Catholic (3%).
