Dublin was Swifte country: 36.9% of them (31 people) lived there in 1911. Next came Mayo (14), Cork (8), Waterford (8) and Kildare (6).

The average Swifte in 1911 was 33.7 years old, 36.0 for men and 31.9 for women; noticeably older than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Swifte literacy in 1911
Of the Swiftes whose literacy was recorded, 79.7% could both read and write, 2.5% could read but not write, and 17.7% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Patrick (8), John, Godwin, Thomas and Albert. For women it was Mary (7), followed by Bridget, Catherine, Jane and Margaret.
Swifte occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Swifte's census form was "Scholar"; 21.4% (18) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were domestic servant (9.5%), farm labourer (7.1%), maid (3.6%) and no occupation / dependent (3.6%). Grouped by sector, domestic service accounted for 14.3% of all Swiftes, followed by agriculture, no occupation / dependent and building & construction.
What religion is Swifte?
Swiftes were predominantly Roman Catholic (73.8%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (26.2%).
