Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 10.1% of all Symeses, followed by no occupation / dependent, professional and clerical & administration.

Symeses were predominantly Anglican (73.4%). The remainder were mostly Roman Catholic (15.6%), Methodist (8.3%) and Presbyterian (1.8%).
