Of the Tarrants whose literacy was recorded, 77.7% could both read and write, 3.4% could read but not write, and 19% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 81.2% reading and writing against 74.5% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (14), Richard, Patrick, William and Samuel. For women it was Mary (9), followed by Margaret, Hannah, Kate and Lizzie.

The most common entry on a Tarrant's census form was "Scholar"; 19.1% (35) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (16.9%), farm labourer (4.4%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.8%) and domestic servant (2.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 21.9% of all Tarrants, followed by retail & commerce, domestic service and professional.
What religion is Tarrant?
Tarrants were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 97.8% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.2%).
