The 1911 Census recorded 1,435 people named Tighe in Ireland, about 0.033% of everyone living in the country at the time and the 595th most common surname overall. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 727 men and 707 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

The average Tighe in 1911 was 29.9 years old, 29.5 for men and 30.3 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Tighe literacy in 1911
Of the Tighes whose literacy was recorded, 73.9% could both read and write, 5.4% could read but not write, and 20.7% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 75.3% reading and writing against 72.4% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Tighe common first names
The most common male names were John (105), Michael, Patrick, James and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (115), followed by Bridget, Margaret, Catherine and Anne.
Tighe occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Tighe's census form was "Scholar"; 20.2% (290) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (18.1%), general labourer (4.7%), farm labourer (2.2%) and domestic servant (2.1%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 21.1% of all Tighes, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.
What religion is Tighe?
Tighes were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 96% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (2.9%) and Methodist (0.3%).
