The 1911 Census recorded 373 people named Timmons in Ireland; roughly one in every 12,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 189 men and 183 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Timmons literacy in 1911
Of the Timmonses whose literacy was recorded, 81% could both read and write, 4.5% could read but not write, and 14.6% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were Patrick (30), John, James, Michael and Thomas; the same five names that topped the list nationally. For women it was Mary (28), followed by Margaret, Bridget, Catherine and Ellen.

The most common entry on a Timmons's census form was "Scholar"; 16.4% (61) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (9.4%), farm labourer (5.9%), general labourer (5.9%) and domestic servant (3.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.9% of all Timmonses, followed by general labourers, domestic service and building & construction.
What religion is Timmons?
Timmonses were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 91.4% of them. The remainder were mostly Anglican (5.1%), Methodist (1.3%) and Presbyterian (0.3%).
