Timon literacy in 1911
Of the Timons whose literacy was recorded, 71.6% could both read and write, 6.8% could read but not write, and 21.6% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 77.8% reading and writing against 62.1% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were James (6), John, Michael, Patrick and Edward. For women it was Mary (4), followed by Annie, Maria, Bridget and Anne.

The most common entry on a Timon's census form was "Scholar"; 33.8% (25) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (14.9%), butcher (8.1%), teacher (4.1%) and general labourer (2.7%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 16.2% of all Timons, followed by food & drink, professional and building & construction.
