Grouped by sector, textiles & clothing accounted for 11.5% of all Towells, followed by agriculture, domestic service and general labourers.

The largest religious group among Towells was Presbyterian, at 48.1%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (36.5%) and Roman Catholic (15.4%).
