The 1911 Census recorded 326 people named Tucker in Ireland; roughly one in every 13,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 163 men and 162 women. (A small number, 1, had no sex recorded.)

Dublin was Tucker country: 40.2% of them (131 people) lived there in 1911. Next came Limerick (51), Cork (48), Mayo (20) and Sligo (14).

The average Tucker in 1911 was 26.8 years old, 25.5 for men and 28.2 for women; noticeably younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Tucker literacy in 1911
Of the Tuckers whose literacy was recorded, 80% could both read and write, 3.1% could read but not write, and 16.9% could do neither. The figures were much the same for men and women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (18), Edward, William, Patrick and James. For women it was Mary (21), followed by Bridget, Catherine, Jane and Margaret.

The most common entry on a Tucker's census form was "Scholar"; 27% (88) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (3.7%), other maker / factory worker (3.7%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.7%) and domestic servant (3.4%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 5.5% of all Tuckers, followed by manufacturing & trades, domestic service and retail & commerce.
What religion is Tucker?
Tuckers were predominantly Roman Catholic (72.1%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (23.9%), Seventh Day Adventist (1.2%) and Methodist (0.3%).
