Of the Wickhams whose literacy was recorded, 78.8% could both read and write, 4% could read but not write, and 17.2% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 81.8% reading and writing against 75.2% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.

The most common male names were John (27), James, Patrick, Thomas and Martin. For women it was Mary (25), followed by Margaret, Bridget, Ellen and Annie; matching the national top five exactly.

The most common entry on a Wickham's census form was "Scholar"; 17.1% (48) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (12.1%), farm labourer (7.1%), general labourer (3.2%) and shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (3.2%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 20% of all Wickhams, followed by textiles & clothing, retail & commerce and domestic service.
What religion is Wickham?
Wickhams were overwhelmingly Roman Catholic, 96.8% of them. The remainder were mostly Presbyterian (2.1%) and Anglican (1.1%).
