The 1911 Census recorded 76 people named Windsor in Ireland; roughly one in every 58,000 people carried the name. The name was split fairly evenly between men and women: 38 men and 38 women.

The Windsors were heavily concentrated in Wicklow, home to 64.5% of them (49 people). Next came Dublin (14), Tyrone (6), Antrim (5) and Armagh (1).

The average Windsor in 1911 was 28.0 years old, 33.9 for men and 22.0 for women; a touch younger than the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Windsor literacy in 1911
Of the Windsors whose literacy was recorded, 72.4% could both read and write, 2.6% could read but not write, and 25% could do neither. Men came out slightly ahead, 76.3% reading and writing against 68.4% of women. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Windsor common first names
The most common male names were John (8), Peter, Thomas, James and George. For women it was Margaret (4), followed by Annie, Bridget, Esther and Martha.
Windsor occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Windsor's census form was "Scholar"; 11.8% (9) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (9.2%), farm labourer (5.3%), general labourer (5.3%) and butcher (1.3%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 15.8% of all Windsors, followed by general labourers, domestic service and textiles & clothing.
What religion is Windsor?
Windsors were predominantly Roman Catholic (88.2%). The remainder were mostly Anglican (11.8%).
