The 1911 Census recorded 78 people named Young E in Ireland; roughly one in every 56,000 people carried the name. There were noticeably more men than women recorded: 46 men to 32 women.
Counties with Young E in Ireland
Down had the largest share of Young Es, 23.1% (18 people). Next came Derry (16), Antrim (12), Cork (8) and Laois (7).

Young E average age in 1911
The average Young E in 1911 was 29.2 years old, 26.2 for men and 33.5 for women; almost exactly in line with the national averages of 29.6 for men and 30.5 for women. That low figure reflects just how many children there were in Edwardian Ireland, along with high infant mortality and the limits of public health at the time. For comparison, average life expectancy in Ireland today is around 83.
Young E literacy in 1911
Of the Young Es whose literacy was recorded, 83.1% could both read and write, 2.6% could read but not write, and 14.3% could do neither. Women came out slightly ahead, 84.4% reading and writing against 82.2% of men. Bear in mind these figures include young children; the census itself only counted people aged nine and over when calculating illiteracy, on the grounds that it was unfair to label a child illiterate before they'd had a chance to learn.
Young E common first names
The most common male names were John (6), Joseph, George, Samuel and Charles. For women it was Mary (6), followed by Jane, Agness, Annie and Bridget.
Young E occupations in 1911
The most common entry on a Young E's census form was "Scholar"; 24.4% (19) were children at school. Among the rest, the most common occupations were farmer (10.3%), shopkeeper / shop assistant / dealer (9%), general labourer (5.1%) and housekeeper (3.8%). Grouped by sector, agriculture accounted for 11.5% of all Young Es, followed by retail & commerce, domestic service and general labourers.
What religion is Young E?
The largest religious group among Young Es was Presbyterian, at 43.6%. The remainder were mostly Anglican (37.2%), Roman Catholic (15.4%), Unitarian (2.6%) and Methodist (1.3%).
