That kind of absorption into the everyday is part of what makes this ringfort worth a second look. The northern stretch of its enclosing bank has been pressed into service by local farming, and a laneway cuts straight through the eastern side, yet enough survives to give a clear sense of the original form.

Ringforts, known in Irish as raths when constructed primarily of earth, were the most common settlement type in early medieval Ireland, typically dating from roughly the fifth to the twelfth century. They served as enclosed farmsteads, the bank and ditch providing a degree of security for a family and their livestock rather than any serious military defence. This particular example is notably large: the enclosure measures 44.5 metres in diameter on its north-west to south-east axis, and the bank, though weathered, still rises to 1.8 metres on its exterior face. At the south-east section, the internal face of the bank retains its original drystone construction, a detail that points to the care and craft that went into building what might otherwise be dismissed as a simple earthen mound. What the site lacks is any visible entrance feature, which is unusual; most raths preserve at least a trace of a formal gap or causeway. Whether that absence is the result of the laneway's later intrusion or some earlier disturbance is difficult to say. The fort occupies a north-west-facing slope on rising ground, a position that would have offered a reasonable outlook across the surrounding upland.
