The example at Killinane in County Tipperary is of interest less for what survives than for what has been quietly lost. Sitting on the summit of a natural rise, it measures around 36 metres across its north-south axis, but the shape it presents today is irregular and somewhat battered, its interior pocked with spoil heaps and quarry-holes, its surface uneven beneath heavy overgrowth.

What makes this site quietly telling is the record of its changing outline across different map editions. When the first Ordnance Survey six-inch sheet was produced in 1843, the enclosure was depicted as roughly circular, the typical form for a rath of this kind. By the time the revised edition appeared in 1952 to 1953, the shape had shifted on paper to something more rectangular, with straight sides to the north, south, and west, while the eastern side had been cut away entirely by a north-south road running directly through it. The road is still there, flanking the eastern portion of the site. Whether the apparent rectangular form on the later map reflects genuine physical alteration or simply a different surveying convention is not recorded, but the contrast between the two depictions is a reminder of how much these monuments have absorbed from the working landscape around them. A modern gap has also been broken through the northern bank, and houses now stand both to the north and south of the site, with pasture to the west.
