It measures roughly 51 metres north to south and 26 metres east to west, large enough to have once been significant, yet now so faint that aerial photography taken in March 2018 could barely register its outline against the surrounding farmland.

The monument was recorded clearly enough on the Ordnance Survey six-inch map of 1837, which depicted it as a distinct rectangular mound, already at that point intersected along its southern edge by a field boundary running east to west. That boundary, drawn by whatever agricultural arrangement was current at the time, cut across the southern end of the feature and has almost certainly contributed to its gradual erosion. Rectangular earthwork platforms of this kind can serve a variety of functions in the Irish landscape: some are the flattened remains of enclosures associated with early settlement, others the bases of later medieval structures, and some represent managed or ceremonial spaces whose original purpose has long since become opaque. Without excavation, the Moneen example resists confident classification. What is clear is that nearly two centuries of farming have reduced something once substantial enough to be mapped to something now only legible from above, and even then only just.
